Purimgifts 2025 Dear Creator Letter
Hello! I am so excited to see what you make!
Here are some further prompts and ideas.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
In the episode "Rules of Acquisition" Pel says she has memorized "All two hundred and eighty five of [the Rules of Acquistion] and the various commentaries as well." What I'm getting from this is -- Ferengi Talmud? Anything exploring what the various commentaries entail and how they are studied would be super interesting to me, especially through the lens of Pel? It could have a Yentl-ish vibe.
I love Ishka as well.
Also, anything at all about Kira and/or Jadzia would be greatly enjoyed. I love both of them very much. Backstory, or maybe an adventure they go on together?
Or something about Jennifer that develops her personality more? I like Kassidy Yates too. And I love Sisko if he were to be included.
And any sort of worldbuilding about Bajoran culture and religion would be super interesting - it could be somewhat Jewish inspired, (like what does the Bajoran holiday Days of Atonement entail?) but it could also be totally different. Trill worldbuilding would be awsome as well.
If by any chance you have read the book Revenant (which I very much recommend if you haven't) something about Dax and Nemi would be interesting!
I did want to mention that I have only seen up to the beginning of season 4 (maybe season 5 by reveals.) I understand it may be hard to remember where certain information comes from, so please don't worry too much about it, but if you could try to avoid spoiling any major plot points from the later seasons I would appreciate that.
Ghosts (TV 2019)
I love this show and I love all the women in it. I would enjoy anything you choose to write about any of them. Mary is my favorite, but Alison, Kitty, Annie, and Fanny are all awesome too. I love Mary/Robin, if you want to include that, and I'm also open to Mary/Annie. Found family between Alison and all the Ghosts is always wonderful. Backstory about any of them when they were alive would be interesting as well.
The Silmarillion
This is my fandom home and although I haven't been reading for it as much lately I'm always more than happy to return to it.
I love all the women - some that are coming to mind as characters I especially love are all the Valier, Nerdanel, Andreth, Galadriel, Aredhel, and the Queens of Numenor. But I'd be happy to receive fic about any of the Silmarillion women. The Faithful as a religious minority could have some Jewish inspiration. It's also possible someone like Maglor or Daeron might become Jewish over time, and if you want to make any other character or character group Jewish-inspired I would enjoy that. I'm just going to share Chestnut's excellent list of characters who are persecuted by evil viziers: https://chestnut-pod.dreamwidth.org/146876.html
Harry Potter
I would love something where Hermione is Jewish, especially with how this affects her experience with Voldemort and muggleborns being targeted. How would this affect her experience in Chamber of Secrets and her being petrified? Does she tell her parents, and if so how do they react? Or does she try to shield them from how bad it is?
I think she is likely a religious skeptic, and does not have a lot of religious belief, but is potentially still interested in religious practices, so a fic could explore how her relationship with Jewish practices and beliefs changes over time. Also, I am just generally fascinated by her erasing her parents memory. How does she feel about this and how does this impact her relationship with them going forward? How do they feel about this?
Alternately, if you want to write anything about Luna I would enjoy that too. Maybe something showing her being friends (or a couple?) with Dean, bonding over their shared love of art? During their time trapped together would be an obvious setting, but it could be before or after too. Luna & Hermione or Luna/Hermione would be lovely too. I could also see Remus being Jewish. Jewish Remus & Hermione? Or if you want to write something developing Anthony Goldstein that would be cool.
My Name is Asher Lev
This is such an excellent book that I just finished a few months ago. Any further scenes about Asher Lev and his experience being pulled between his religion/family and community and the Christian-influenced world of art would be wonderful. I love the way his view on the world and need to create is described in the book, I would also love anything at all from his mother's perspective, at any point in the book or after. She is very interesting and what she goes through is very sad.
Flash Gordon
I may need to rewatch this, because I don't remember too many details, but it's a super fun movie and Dr. Hans Zarkov is definitely Jewish. So anything you want to write about him would be enjoyed. I might add more prompts if I come up with anything after rewatching.
Don Giovanni
An interpretation could be made that Leporello is a Jewish converso (see this post: https://www.tumblr.com/leporellian/612302824714403840/new-discovery-in-the-don-giovanni-libretto?source=share )
I also love all 3 of the women, especially Elvira, if you want to write about them.
Ghosts (US TV 2021)
Anything about Trevor Lefkowitz and/or Hetty Woodstone.
